Simplicity
Zen ideology/culture seeks to have a meditated simplicity, avoiding unnecessary stuff; simple elegance, enlightened minimalist design in ideas and art.
We want simplicity (simple) without losing all the necessary stuff (all that it is needed), without losing clarity/meaning (unambiguous) in ideas, without losing useful diversity of powers (powerful), and without losing quality or efficiency.
Deep thinking
While the average human have a middle age crisis because of lack of a deep meaning of their life and because they can't handle deep thinking for long, it is not the case for Zen monks that can easily go beyond shallow mundane things!
As a branch of Buddhism, Zen concentrate in meditation. Zen goes beyond ordinary reasoning, fundamental logic and philosophy... Reaching some sort of "emptiness" of though.
We desire to reach the highest consciousness possible, when enlightenment happen and maximum fluidity of useful thought happen.
Silence
Zen monks seek a compatible environment with an undisturbed (imperturbable) quietude.
Usually, a calm/silent ambient foments serenity, inner peace, meditation and a healthy thinking mind.
They prefer to live outside of modern noisy cities, peacefully retired from open/busy society.
We seek universal positive quietude of negative energies and a positive quietude of chaotic energies.
We seek to handle properly any useful ambient (preferably a friendly environment), including big noisy cities where more humans live.
